In the first episode of this series, we examined the debates surrounding Gino Jennings’ teachings on modesty and the role of women in the church.
The focus was on an instance when Nadeen Spence, a prominent Jamaican academic, openly mocked Jennings during a live broadcast on TVJ’s All Angles program.
Spence, along with co-panelists Minister Steven Baker and Sean Campbell, engaged in a heated discussion about Jennings’ teachings, particularly his controversial views on how women should dress within the church.
While Minister Baker defended Jennings’ adherence to biblical principles, Spence and Campbell criticized his rigid interpretation of scripture, sparking a polarized public reaction.
In this second episode, we shift our attention to Arian Hammond, a co-host of The Fix Podcast, who also criticized Gino Jennings during a discussion on-air.
Her critique followed a remark by her co-host Naro, who suggested that Jennings seemed to harbor disdain for women.
Naro acknowledged that some of Jennings’ points about excessive adornment in women, such as extravagant hairstyles and plastic surgery, might hold merit. However, he claimed Jennings’ overall tone reflected disdain for women.
Hammond’s critique escalated quickly as she labeled Jennings a misogynist, arguing that his views relegated women to roles of procreation and servitude.
She expressed outrage at his strict teachings on modesty, including his condemnation of makeup, jewelry, and revealing clothing. For Hammond, these teachings were not about spirituality but an attempt to control and belittle women.
She criticized Jennings’ sermons, claiming they bordered on hypocrisy and veered into disrespectful commentary.
Hammond also criticized Jennings’ church structure, particularly the segregation of men and women
