Mindy Kaling spoke out about being a guest on Meghan Markle’s new show

Mindy Kaling said it has been ‘fascinating seeing the reaction’ after calling Meghan Markle by the wrong name.

It’s safe to say that viewers of With Love, Meghan, have been pretty critical of the new Netflix show thus far.

Meghan is joined by numerous celebrity guests throughout the series, as she shares her cooking and hosting tips.

However, despite the hate, within 24 hours of its debut With Love, Meghan reached Netflix’s top 10 in 46 countries.

One awkward moment in particular garnered the attention of viewers, as Meghan corrected her guest Mindy Kaling when she supposedly called her the wrong name.

When talking about her favourite fast food, guest Kaling noted: “I don’t think anyone in the world knows that Meghan Markle has eaten Jack-in-the-box.”

In response, the duchess said: “It’s so funny that you keep saying Markle too because you know I’m Sussex now.”

Leaning into the importance of sharing the name with her husband, Meghan added: “When you have kids, and you go ‘I share my name with my children’, and that feels…I didn’t know how meaningful it would be, but it just means so much to go – ‘this is our family name’.”

Quickly backtracking, Kaling said: “Well, now I know, and I love it.”

The actress has now spoken out about the experience while making an appearance on The View chat show.

“You know, I had a great time,” she said, before expanding about the reaction on social media.

“I noticed that whenever I do something, anything related to Meghan, it becomes like…” she paused, before Whoopi Goldberg filled in the gap with ‘big news’.

Kaling added: “We were making sandwiches and, you know, then they’ll push in on my face on TikTok and they’ll be like, ‘Look at this emotion you felt,’ and I honestly didn’t even remember, ’cause we shot it, like, nine months ago.”

Re-iterating her love for the duchess, she said: “I loved my time with Meghan.”

She did however note how ‘fascinating’ it was to see the reaction to this online.

Goldberg said: “People love to hate her. People love to talk about her.”

Speaking about why she went on the show, during an interview on the Golden Globes red carpet, Kaling said: “I mean, I had had my baby and I think I was two months postpartum and [Meghan] texted me and was like, ‘Do you want to be on my show?’

“And when you hang out with Meghan, you know the food is going to be good. So it’s just nice for somebody else to be cooking for me.”
