“I was just with Lamont like literally a week before he died,” Paulk said. The two ran into each other at a barbershop and spent the day catching up, driving around Los Angeles and hanging out at Bentley’s house in the valley.

“We were chopping it up, everything was good,” Paulk reflected. Bentley was in the process of making some life transitions, and he was in a good place, Paulk recalled. Lamont was known for his high-energy personality, which left a lasting impact on those around him.

Paulk reminisced about their time on the Moesha set, explaining that Bentley, despite his larger-than-life persona, was a real, grounded person. “He was a real dude,” Paulk said, acknowledging Bentley’s loyalty to his friends.

However, life on set wasn’t always smooth sailing. Paulk described how they had been kicked off a couple of lots due to an altercation involving one of Bentley’s friends, but even during such tough moments, Bentley’s character stood out.

After the show ended, Paulk said Bentley was working hard to get his life back on track. He had a family, a daughter, and was focused on building a better future.

Bentley was also putting his energy into stabilizing his life and making positive strides. However, tragedy struck when Lamont was involved in a fatal car accident, which Paulk learned about through a call from fellow actor Wesley Jonathan.

“It was just an unbelievable phone call,” Paulk said, recalling how devastating it was to hear about Bentley’s death. “It broke a lot of our hearts because Lamont was such a high-energy person. You can’t really replace someone like him,” he added.

The news of Bentley’s passing was compounded by the loss of other friends from the entertainment world, including Yvette Wilson and Merlin Santana, both of whom had been part of the Moesha cast.

Paulk also spoke about the loss of actor Bernie Mac, who had played his uncle on The Bernie Mac Show. These losses deeply impacted Paulk, but he also shared a philosophical perspective on life’s inevitable challenges.

“Life comes with the loss of people because we’re not forever in these bodies,” Paulk said, reflecting on how we are all transient in the world. Despite the pain of loss, Paulk emphasized the importance of cherishing the memories of those who have passed.

“We got to encapsulate their energies in a time on TV,” he said, recalling the positive moments he shared with his late co-stars.

In addition to reflecting on the loss of his co-stars, Paulk fondly remembered Yvette Wilson, who played Andell on Moesha. He described her as a lively, authentic person with a wild energy that was necessary for the set. “Her character on Moesha was like an African eccentric lady, but she was even more real off-screen,” Paulk shared, acknowledging her comedic brilliance and raw, unfiltered nature.

The heartfelt tribute to Lamont Bentley and other beloved colleagues highlights the deep bond they shared, both professionally and personally. Despite the pain of loss, Marcus Paulk’s words remind us of the lasting impact that friends and mentors can have in our lives.
