Jenna Ortega had a savage five-word reply to rumors she’s dating Johnny Depp
Rumors were circulating that Jenna Ortega and Johnny Depp were spotted on a date together
It would have been interesting to have been a fly on the wall when Jenna Ortega first heard the rumors that she was dating Johnny Depp.
It’s nothing new really, as celebrities get matched up together all the time, largely it is because some fans think they would make a cute couple.
However, it was news to Ortega when the then 21-year-old actor found out that she was reportedly dating the then-60-year-old Depp.
The rumor came to be when, last year, celebrity gossip account, Deuxmoi, shared an anonymous tip that had claimed the pair were spotted out on a date.
But just for context, it is important to note that Deuxmoi has never claimed any of its tips are in fact true, with their Instagram bio reading: “Some statements made on this account have not been independently confirmed. This account does not claim information published is based in fact.”
Nonetheless, people ran with the rumors and a slew of articles began popping up on Ortega supposedly speaking out on their relationship.

In an interview with BuzzFeed while promoting her film, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Ortega spoke out on the situation when asked what the craziest rumor she’d ever heard about herself was.
“Probably that I was in a serious relationship with Johnny Depp and I wanted everybody to ‘leave us alone,” the Wednesday star replied.
“It’s so insane to me like I never spoke on that, I never said anything like that,” she added. “Articles really do just make up their own quotes, but I thought that that was pretty hilarious.”
“I was on set with [co-star] Richard E. Grant and he came up to me and he just said ‘Oh so you and Johnny,’ and I laughed because — I don’t know that person,” she continued.
Fans online seem to be loving Ortega’s response, particularly commenting on her, ‘I don’t know that person,’ remark.

One user on Twitter wrote: “She really said I’ve never heard of that man in my life,” while another added: “She’s so real but how sick and twisted does an individual even have to be to make that up.”
“Now that’s how [you] deny a dating rumor,” a third user chimed in.
Similarly, Depp’s representatives also denied the rumors, writing: “Mr. Depp has no personal or professional relationship with Ms. Ortega whatsoever. He has never met her or spoken to her.
“He is not involved in any project with her, nor does he intend to be. He is appalled by these baseless and malicious rumours that are intended to harm his reputation and career.”
Ortega has previously mentioned that she doesn’t plan on ever addressing her love life publicly, explaining that she worries it would eclipse her work.
While speaking to Vanity Fair in a 2024 interview, the actress shared: “I don’t plan on speaking about my love life publicly, because that’s mine.”
“When you know too much about someone’s personal life, then you watch films and you can only see them [the celebrity side of them], there’s nothing worse,” she added.
Rihanna has been in the spotlight for years but people are only just realizing they’re saying her name wrong
It turns out that almost the entire world has been pronouncing Rihanna incorrectly, but luckily Jenna Ortega was on hand to show us how it’s done.
We’ve grown up with the 36-year-old – I mean, I remember when she released her debut single ‘Pon de Replay’ while I was in elementary school at just eight years old.
Yet so many of us have apparently been saying her name wrong.
Two years later she released her third studio album Good Girl Gone Bad which ‘Umbrella’ was part of, topping the charts for the singer – who was just 19 years old at the time.

Anyway, you get the point. For what feels like as long as we’ve been conscious of our surroundings, Rihanna has been releasing hits.
So, for people to be pronouncing her name wrong this whole time… she must feel it’s deliberate!
Yes, pronouncing it ‘Ree-awh-na’ is just wrong.
Well, thanks to Jenna Ortega, people are only just realizing their mistakes after she pronounced the star’s name correctly at the Golden Globes earlier this year.

The 22-year-old was presenting the award for Best Song in a Motion Picture in January last year, but before announcing the winner, Ortega ran through some of the other artists nominated in the category, including Rihanna, who was up for her song ‘Lift Me Up’ from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
“I’m gonna get to original song in a minute, we got artists like Taylor Swift and Rihanna competing for that award,” she said.
“I know, I’m very excited.”

One fan on TikTok, @sugeneshin_, noticed that Ortega had pronounced Rihanna’s name differently to how they thought it was pronounced – and took to the video sharing platform to discuss.
Admitting they had been pronouncing the singer’s name incorrectly the whole time, other fans also revealed they had been doing the same.
It turns out that Rihanna’s name is pronounced Ree-an-nah, and not Ree-awh-na as some previously thought.
And Ri’s make-up brand, Fenty Beauty, were loving the fact Ortega had pronounced it correctly, commenting on one video: “Miss Wednesday understood the assignment.”

Others were shocked they had been saying it wrong the whole time, with one person commenting: “I’ve been pronouncing it wrong my whole life?!??”
While another said: “Dang…so I’ve been saying her name wrong my whole life?!! I feel embarrassed now. I had NO idea that was how you correctly pronounce her name!”
Others were adamant they had been saying it correctly the whole time, while a few people pointed out that, depending on where you live in the world, it’s often pronounced differently.

Many Brits commented to say they already pronounced Rihanna’s name the correct way, with a fifth adding: “In the uk we pronounce it the same as Jenna.”
Rihanna herself has previously confirmed that this is the correct way of pronouncing her name, telling Showbiz Tonight that Ree-an-nah is right.
