The Queen of Christmas makes a jaw-dropping amount each year from the festive tune
All I Want For Christmas is to write a hit song like Mariah Carey and be set for life.
Imagine making a song which becomes so successful and iconic all that’s really required of you is having to defrost and come out of hibernation for one month every year to show your face. That and make an insane amount of money and then go back to doing whatever you want with said fortune?
Well, the Queen of Christmas Mariah Carey doesn’t have to imagine that, making an eye-watering amount from royalties every single year.
‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ was released back in 1994 as the lead single of Carey’s fourth studio album and first holiday album, Merry Christmas.
It was written and produced by Carey and Walter Afanasieff and released by Columbia Records.
In the first week of its release, the song reached spot number six on Billboard‘s Hot Adult Contemporary charts in the US, however, since 1994 it has continued to creep back into the top charts each festive season, growing in popularity each year – peaking at number one on Billboard’s The Hot 100 every year from 2019-2023 – and becoming an iconic song of Christmas.
And it’s certainly paying off for Carey, who’s reported as earning a staggering amount every year from the song.

A report by The Economist in 2017 alleges Carey earns around $2.5 million every year in royalties from ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’.
And The New York Post even reported the figure is more like $3 million, as quoted by Forbes.
Yup. $3 million every single year for a song she wrote 20 years ago – not too shabby is it?
Oh, and that’s on top of the royalties Carey received when she first released the song – reported as a whopping $60 million.

And 2024 is already looking like it’s set to be a very profitable Christmas for Carey once more.
Not only has ‘All I Want For Christmas’ is you already re-entered The Billboard Top 100 Charts, at the time of writing sat in spot number 16, but it’s also been played a fair whack.
My Stream Count reports Carey’s hit song has been played a staggering ‘1,932,308,531 times on Spotify’, and this year?

Well, it may only be December 3, but Carey’s festive tune has already been played a silly number of times – 8,211,035 on December 1 alone.
Is it all just Carey playing it on repeat in her house? Or is everyone already in the Christmas spirit extra early this year? Either way, Carey certainly doesn’t need to worry about whether or not to turn the heating on this Christmas.
