Dash, who was romantically involved with Aaliyah at the time of her passing, claimed that renowned director Hype Williams may have played a critical role in the events leading up to the fatal plane crash.

According to Dash, Aaliyah was originally scheduled to take a private jet offered by musician Lenny Kravitz after completing her video shoot. However, Dash alleges that Williams opted to take Kravitz’s jet for himself, leaving Aaliyah and her team to board a smaller, less secure aircraft.

“She was supposed to be on Lenny Kravitz’s jet,” Dash explained. “Hype took that plane, and she ended up on the smaller one.” Dash described Williams’ pattern of behavior during video shoots, claiming that Williams often prioritized his own comfort over that of the artists.

“He had a habit of making himself more comfortable than the artist on the artist’s dime,” Dash said. “When we shot Big Pimpin’, we were in hotels while Hype had a house with a chef. I wasn’t going to let that slide again.”

Dash recalled warning Aaliyah not to let Williams manipulate the shoot, predicting that Williams would try to extend the production for additional pay. “I told her, ‘Don’t let him convince you to leave Miami. He’s going to try to take the shoot somewhere else to get more money,’” Dash recounted. Despite his warnings, the production was moved to the Bahamas.

The fallout from Aaliyah’s tragic death has left Dash grappling with what-ifs and unresolved frustration. “Somebody should ask [Hype Williams] about it,” Dash said. “She would still be here if she had been on the plane she was supposed to be on.”

Dash also expressed disillusionment with the industry’s lack of accountability, pointing out how public opinion often shifts only after it’s too late. “I said things years ago, but nobody cared until it became popular opinion,” he remarked. “It’s only after the damage is done that people want to acknowledge the truth.”

Aaliyah, the beloved R&B singer, died in a plane crash on August 25, 2001, after completing the music video for Rock the Boat. The overloaded aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff from the Bahamas, killing all nine people on board.

Dash’s revelations add a new layer of complexity to the lingering questions surrounding the tragic loss of Aaliyah, leaving fans and industry insiders wondering if more could have been done to prevent her untimely passing.
